Beating the Summer Heat in Hayama Isshiki Beach

There’s no better way to enjoy a hot summer’s day than going to the beach and having fun in the water or just lying back and relaxing in the sandy shores while enjoying the cool sea breeze, listening to the waves lapping the shore, and watching beautiful people pass by.

Isshiki beach in Hayama, which is located in the northwest region of Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa, is considered to be one of the best beaches in Japan due to the good quality of the sand, beach houses, and it is less crowded than other popular beach options. It is also the favorite destination of the Japanese Imperial Family since 1984.

There are plenty of restaurants along the shore that sell food, snacks, drinks and sometimes even bikini and floaters. They also offer parasol rental for ¥2,000 for a day as well as shower use for ¥1,000.

If you want to save a bit, bringing your own tent and cooler packed with snacks and drinks (because it will be cheaper than buying such items on the beach) is a good option. It is advisable to come early so you can save a good and comfortable space for your family and friends.

Water sports like kayaking, body boarding, and windsurfing are also allowed in Isshiki Beach. There are also lifeguards on duty to help in case of any emergency.

If you are not a fan of the sand, there is also a lawn area near the sand where you can just stretch out and feel the sea breeze.

If you find yourself stifling in the humidity of the city and yearn for some time off to relax under the blue skies, going on a short trip to the beaches just near Tokyo is really a good idea.

To access Isshiki Beach, take the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line to Zushi station and change onto a Keikyu Bus number 12 (located to the left outside the ticket gates)bound for Hayama (葉山). Alight at at Isiki Kaigan (一色海岸) and from the bus stop, follow the narrow paths to the beach.
